Has GTA 6 been delayed again? The published date record

No. As of today the date is Thursday 19 November 2026, and it has been that date in every first-party statement since 6 November 2025.

The question is still a fair one, because this game has moved twice. It is also a question that usually gets answered with a feeling rather than a record, so here is the record: every date Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have actually published for this game, in order, with what each of them said at the time. Then the part that is more useful than any prediction, which is what is dated and public now that was not dated and public before either previous move.

Every published date, in order

Two of those rows are the moves everybody remembers. The others matter because they show how the date behaves between announcements, which turns out to be the interesting part.

The reveal, and a narrowing inside a results release

The announcement of 4 December 2023 named the platforms and the year and nothing else. Grand Theft Auto VI, it said, is “coming to PlayStation® 5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X|S games and entertainment systems in 2025”. Sam Houser, Rockstar’s founder, was quoted on the ambition rather than the schedule.

Then the year became half a year, without an announcement of its own. Take-Two publishes a release slate inside its quarterly results, a four-column table of label, product, platforms and release date, under the heading “Take-Two’s future lineup announced to-date includes”. In the table of 8 February 2024 this game’s date column read “Calendar 2025”. In the next one, on 16 May 2024, it read “Fall of Calendar 2025”.

The same results release said so in words, in Zelnick’s comments on the year ahead: “Our outlook reflects a narrowing of Rockstar Games’ previously established window of Calendar 2025 to Fall of Calendar 2025 for Grand Theft Auto VI.” Take-Two issued no release about it, and between the reveal and May 2025 not one of its press releases carries this game’s name in its headline. A six-month narrowing arrived as a line in an earnings outlook and a cell in a table.

That row then read the same thing in four consecutive quarterly tables: May 2024, August 2024, November 2024 and February 2025. Hold that thought, because it comes back.

The first move, 2 May 2025

The first delay arrived inside a Take-Two press release whose headline was about money. It was titled “Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. Reiterates Expectations to Achieve Sequential Increases in, and Record Levels of, Net Bookings in Fiscal 2026 and 2027”, with the real news in a subheading: Rockstar Games announces release date for Grand Theft Auto VI of May 26, 2026.

The body is precise about what changed. Rockstar “has announced that Grand Theft Auto VI, which was expected to launch in Fall of 2025, is now planned for release on May 26, 2026, during the Company’s Fiscal Year 2027.” Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two’s chairman and chief executive, was quoted saying the company “support fully Rockstar Games taking additional time to realize their creative vision for Grand Theft Auto VI”, and added a line that reads differently in hindsight: “While we take the movement of our titles seriously and appreciate the vast and deep global anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI, we remain steadfast in our commitment to excellence.”

Four days later, on 6 May 2025, Rockstar released Trailer 2. Its announcement carried the new date in its second paragraph, describing the game as “Set to launch on May 26, 2026, on PlayStation® 5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X|S games and entertainment systems”. A major trailer, four days after a delay, stating the replacement date as settled.

That date lasted two quarterly tables.

The second move, 6 November 2025

The second delay was announced by Rockstar itself, in a short signed letter on its Newswire dated 6 November 2025. It is worth reading in full, because it is the only time the company has explained one of these decisions in its own voice.

“Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026”, it begins. “We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.” It closes by thanking players for their patience and saying the company is “incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern day Vice City”.

Take-Two reported its results the same day, and the new date was a subheading on that release too: Grand Theft Auto VI now launching November 19, 2026. Zelnick’s comment was shorter and firmer than the one six months earlier. “Rockstar Games will now release Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19, 2026, and we remain both excited and confident they will deliver an unrivalled blockbuster entertainment experience.”

The thing the quarterly table proves, which is nothing

Since that day the date column in Take-Two’s slate has read “November 19, 2026” four times running: November 2025, February 2026, May 2026 and August 2026. Four consecutive quarters of a public company restating the same date in a document its own lawyers vet.

It would be easy to present that as reassurance, and this is the one place where the record actively refuses to cooperate. The fall of 2025 also appeared in four consecutive quarterly tables before it moved. The date that has held longest in that table is precisely the date that then slipped, so repetition in it is not evidence of safety. It tells you what has been announced, which is all the heading claims for it, and it is the same limit this game’s missing PC date runs into from the other direction.

What the table and the results release around it are genuinely good for is being the place a change shows up. The May 2024 narrowing arrived there, not in a release of its own.

What is different now, and it is not a mood

This is the part worth more than any prediction, and it is checkable rather than atmospheric. Both previous moves were announced while this game had no pre-orders, no pre-load date, no parcels in a shipping schedule, no content rating and no launch trailer. All five of those now exist, with dates attached, in public.

Pre-orders opened on 25 June 2026 at midnight local time, announced the day before, with the launch described as “Launching November 19, 2026, for the PlayStation® 5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X|S games and entertainment systems for $79.99”. Orders have been taken since then.

Rockstar’s own store prints a release date of November 19, 2026 and, separately, “Pre-load begins November 12, 2026”. Both console storefronts carry a release date of 11/19/2026 on their product records. The boxed copies, which are download codes rather than discs, have a shipping date of their own: Rockstar says “Shipping will be available starting November 12, 2026.”

Retail has it in writing too. Best Buy’s listings do not merely carry a date, they put both dates in the product name, as “Grand Theft Auto VI - (Code in Box, Delivers 11/12/26, Playable 11/19/26)”, with a line underneath reading “Available to play Thursday, 11/19/26.” That is a retailer committing to a delivery week and a playability date in the same string.

Physical manufacturing is committed as well. The $399.99 Goodtime State collector’s box is dated 19 November. The album’s five physical editions all say “Ships: 20 November 2026”, the day after the game. Both storefronts have carried a final ESRB rating of Mature 17+ since the start of October, where both previously showed a pending one. And the launch trailer went out on 15 October, five weeks before the date, which is where a launch trailer usually goes.

None of that is a guarantee. It is a much larger and more expensive set of commitments than existed on either previous occasion, which is a different claim and a more useful one. Our editions and pre-order guide carries every one of those dates in one table if you are planning around them.

What is genuinely unknown

Whether the date holds. Nobody outside Rockstar knows, and anyone presenting a view on it as information is presenting a guess. The honest position is that the published record says 19 November 2026 and that this record has changed twice before.

Whether anything would be announced in advance, and how far ahead. The first move came in early May 2025 against a window still described only as the fall of that year, so its lead time depends on which day you count it against. The second came on 6 November 2025 against a date of 26 May 2026, which is a little over six months. Neither arrived in launch week, for what little a sample of two is worth.

What drove either decision beyond what was said. Rockstar’s November 2025 letter cites polish and gives no further detail, and no first-party statement has added any since.

The next scheduled moment

There is one date on the calendar where the slate table gets republished and company executives answer questions out loud. Take-Two reports its fiscal second quarter results on Monday 9 November 2026, ten days before launch. That table has carried this game’s date for eleven consecutive quarters and it will carry it again.

If something changes before then, the places it would appear first are the ones above: Rockstar’s Newswire, a Take-Two press release, or the date field on a storefront. We check all of them, and we will say so plainly on the day rather than the week after.
